Austroads Guidelines

In Australia Austroads publishes the design guidelines for the planning, design and construction of cycling facilities.

In the past, the Austroads Guide to Traffic Engineering Practice: Bicycles (Commonly known as Part 14) was the Guideline document.

To ensure bicycles are planned for in every road project, Austroads now incorporates bicycle planning and design guidance into multiple Guideline documents.

The Guide to Road Design (Part 6a Pedestrian and Cyclist Paths) should be used for guidance on the planning, design and construction of paths. This document consolidates information relating to on-road bicycle facilities and provides a summary of key design information for cyclist paths, including intersections of paths with roads.

The Guide to Road Design , Guide to Traffic Management and Guide to Road Safety also provide specific guidance on bicycle facilities.

Cycling Aspects of Austroads Guides has been developed as an overview reference document and is available as a free download.
