The objective of the Freight program is to assist road and transport agencies in their efforts to address the future freight task.

The role of the Freight task force is to improve road freight operations and integration with other transport modes. The work of the Freight task force is undertaken in the context of an increasing freight demand as the Australian and world economies grow, changed Federal/State funding arrangements for road and rail infrastructure development and maintenance, a recognised need for better integration of the road and other transport modes, and changing international standards for freight movement (e.g. container sizes) and heavy vehicle manufacture.
In developing projects and research, the Freight program focuses on key areas such as:
Management of driving hours
Austroads and the National Transport Commission (NTC) have joined forces to assess the feasibility of using electronic systems to manage driving hour requirements in Australia. Further information is available here.
